The Hong Kong
University Students' Union (HKUSU), formerly known as the
"Hong Kong University Union", was established in
1912 and was first located at Hung Hing Ying Building. In
1949, the Union became a registered non-profit making organisation.
Notably, the HKUSU has a long tradition of being active in
matters of University governance, as well as topical social
issues of relevance to the student body and the HKU community.
In addition to serving University members, the HKUSU has over
the years been a vocal and engaged participant in current
affairs, contributing to the social development of Hong Kong.
Currently, the HKUSU has over 100 affiliated societies, including
faculty societies, academic societies, student associations
of halls, cultural clubs, sports clubs and independent clubs.
The HKUSU respects the autonomy of the individual societies,
while encouraging a spirit of unity amongst members. This
results in frequent collaborations between the Central Executive
Committee and different societies, and a wide range of activities
for HKU students to take part in. |
