Mainland Official speaks on Yangtze River in Water Resources Management Symposium at HKU
 
The Yangtze River is facing emerging challenges caused by rapid socio-economic development and increased human impact in the region. As the authority responsible for the River's water resources management, the Bureau of Hydrology of the Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC-BOH), will participate in the "Symposium on Advances in Water Resources Management" a key sponsor.

The CWRC-BOH delegates will reveal the latest challenges facing the management of the Yangtze River, and discuss and explore international best practices on water resources management with the Hong Kong researchers and practitioners at the symposium. The symposium, to be held at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) campus next week, will be attended by over 100 scientists, engineers, academics and Hong Kong government officials.

The 6-member delegation of the CWRC-BOH is led by Director General Mr WANG Jun, who will give a keynote speech at the Symposium entitled "The Mission of Bureau of Hydrology, Changjiang Water Resources Commission". On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr C. K. Mak, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) of the Development Bureau, will also give an address at the Opening of the symposium.

The theme of the two-and-a-half-day symposium includes flood forecast, flood management, river sedimentation, sustainable water resources management, and technical visit. It is organized by the Croucher Laboratory of Environmental Hydraulics, HKU's Department of Civil Engineering and the Hong Kong Chapter of International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research (IAHR - HK) to celebrate the Chapter's 10th Anniversary.
